On this day, we come together in common cause to solemnly remember those who put themselves in harms way and did not come back from it. The willingness for some to invest their life in the cause of the country is ultimately the only thing that made America the country it is - a nation founded on the idea that an individual may live their life as they wish in the pursuit of happiness, prosperity, and fulfillment. The harsh truth that this country does not promise the attainment of these goals is reflective of the world we live in, but having a country where people - all people, regardless of the origin of their forefathers or their method of spiritual reflection - can have an honest shot is the best we can hope for.
